Heel’n Service Dogs Inc. exists to rescue, raise, train, and place purposefully trained service dogs with individuals who need them—free of charge to qualified applicants facing barriers to access.
Our focus is simple: build life-changing partnerships by matching the right dog, the right training, and the right tasks to the person’s real-world needs.

We build service dog teams through a process that is:

What Makes A Service Dog?
A service dog is defined by specialized training, service-level public manners, and task work that supports a person’s disability-related needs.
Here's the difference:

Pet: A beloved companion, but not trained or expected to meet service-level standards in public.

ESA (Emotional Support Animal): Provides comfort through presence; does not require task training or public-access-level behavior.

Service Dog: Trained to perform specific tasks and maintain exceptional public manners—steady, focused, and non-disruptive in real-world environments.
Becoming a true service dog is a long development journey. Many dogs require early foundation work, careful socialization, and consistent training over months to years before they’re ready for reliable public access.
A service dog’s cost reflects that time and care—breeding or rescue evaluation, early development, daily training, ongoing health and temperament screening, and the long-term support needed to match the right dog to the right person.
Program Standards & Certification
Our program follows clear training standards: dogs are task-trained to perform specific, handler-matched skills and must demonstrate calm, controlled behavior in real-world public settings.
Task-training elements (examples, customized per handler):

Retrieval and delivery of items

“Find” cues (exit/door/car/person)

Interruptions for escalating anxiety/panic or dissociation

Deep Pressure Therapy (DPT) / grounding routines

Medication reminders and routine support
-
Positioning skills (e.g., “cover”/“block”) when appropriate to the handler’s needs
Before graduation, each team completes a Public Access Test that evaluates neutrality around people and dogs, loose-leash control, settling quietly, and reliable task performance under distraction.
Upon successful completion, graduates receive service dog certification, tags, and official training letters for ADA public access and HUD/FHA housing accommodations—helping ensure acceptance in public spaces and housing nationwide.

Every service dog we train represents freedom, confidence, and renewed hope for someone facing daily challenges.
At Heel'n Service Dogs, public dog training services help fund life-changing service dogs for individuals living with PTSD, autism, mobility disabilities, and other conditions that impact independence and quality of life.
Each fully trained service dog represents a $20,000–$40,000 investment, including 12–18 months of training and care, as well as ongoing training for the first 2 years.
We offer both personal and corporate sponsorship opportunities for individuals and organizations who want to make ethical, life-changing service dog placements possible.

Our approach
We focus on calm behavior, emotional regulation, and clear communication—without harsh tools or quick fixes. You’ll get practical steps you can use immediately, plus a plan that builds long-term success.
Training Tools & International Compliance
Because service dogs often travel internationally, many commonly used training tools—such as e-collars, shock collars, prong collars, pinch collars, and extended crating—are actually prohibited in other countries.
Beyond legal restrictions, studies have shown that these tools can increase fear, anxiety, and aggression in dogs, often making problematic behaviors worse rather than better.
For this reason, Heel’n does not utilize these tools in our programs.
Instead, we rely on humane, science-based methods that foster trust and long-term positive behavior.
